Put simply an automatic responder or autoresponder, enables you to automatically collect, process, store and manage names and email addresses of people interested in your information, products or services. It enables you to send one or thousands of emails with customized messages, on dates you define or at intervals you specify.

I'd like to tell you about my search for an auto responder and how my experience could help you with a similar decision. Like many other web owners looking for an automatic responder for the first time, I didn't know quite what to choose for the best.

After all, I'd never run an automatic responder before.

But I knew the automatic responder offered with most web hosting accounts just wasn't going to do what I needed. OK, if I just wanted to set up an automatic responder message to tell people I was away on vacation, it's great, but beyond that, nope it just wouldn't do.

They either had too many bugs, poor documentation, poor or no support,
were difficult to install / set-up or just didn't work as described, or as I wanted.

of must have's, this is what I found:

    Whilst I'm no novice when it comes to installing software and scripts that run on a web hosting account I still find it a good policy not to assume things, but to follow the instructions step by step.

  2. Is the automatic responder easy to configure ?
    If you've never setup an automatic responder before things can take a little getting use to.     I have probably answered this question already if you read what I said earlier. The answer is a double Yes. Because the support is provided directly by the software developer himself, he knows what he's talking about. You are not dealing with a well intentioned guy at a support desk.

  5. Does the automatic responder have easy to understand documentation ?
    Once again I have touched on this already and the answer is a clear Yes. This automatic responder has probably the most comprehensive, clearly written instructions and support documentation I have ever seen from any similar product. The only criticism I could make is the documentation is not easily available as a printable download. The automatic responder's documentation is online so to get a hard copy you need to save each page and then print it.

    Personally I find it easier to follow instructions from the printed page than online, but that's just my preference.

  6. Is this automatic responder flexible enough to grow with my business ?
    No one wants to invest in a product and then in 6 -12 months time find they need another one because the business has outgrown it.
