Tony SimpsonI was never intending to write anything regarding my own background, especially in a section About Us or in my case About Me. I first started in web design about 5 years ago, which in Internet time seems a lifetime ago. The Internet has developed and changed almost beyond recognition, not only in web design, but marketing and website promotion and the technology that drives it. I suppose in a way my 30 years of former experience has prepared me well for a life on the Internet. I spent 15 years in electronics design, research and development, product testing and evaluation. I progressed into various management roles, I'm a qualified trainer and spent several years in Sales & Marketing and ran my own offline business. I also have enough paper qualifications and certificates to paper a small sized bedroom.
I suppose I could say I'm also a technology and computer wiz and have spent a small fortune on software over the years. At last count I had over 300 software applications on my PC, most of them now associated with web design, optimization and promotion. With all this experience I thought I was better prepared than most people for a life on the Internet, but boy was I in for a big surprise. They say ignorance is bliss and I think that's especially true on the Internet. When I first started, it seemed the more I learned the more I realized what I didn't know.
I also learned the hard way, there were not the people around when I started who could or wanted to help. I've also had my fair share of website ventures that failed, or should I say didn't succeed, because nothing is really a total failure if you learn from it. I learned the hard way that with a website, ....... build it and they will come .......... does not work and that gets more true everyday the Internet gets bigger. It was the driving force of failure ( I don't give up easily ) that led me to study and practice for almost 3 years, the art of SEO or Search Engine Optimization, and Website Promotion.
Today from my perspective at least, it's in some ways a lot easier to get started, but in some ways a lot harder. It's easier to set up a basic website with little knowledge, but it's a lot harder to get it found on the Internet. It's a lot easier to find products and services to help you to start and run a web business, but it's a lot harder to make the right choices. It's a lot easier to find people who will promise you all sorts of success if you follow them or use their secret this or that. I understand how easy it is to fall for this sort of line, especially when it seems all so new and exciting. But in my accelerated lifetime on the Internet (and from my former experience) I have learned how to test and analyze the claims made by so many products and top marketing gurus on the Internet. There are very few genuine and honest marketers on the Internet and most of the big names you will see and here about are not among them. If you read my blog you will often find reports of my investigations I do into the claims of top marketers who in my experience rarely practice what they preach.
However I digress, but I suppose like everyone else the experiences you have shape your outlook on life and that's no different on the Internet. On a more personal note, I genuinely like to help people, although I'm often given cause to wonder why. Some people can be very difficult to help and I also know that some people are beyond help, but I always try my best for them and that's all anyone can do. Sincerely
